Last month our Product Manager, Michael Clark, talked about the changes to CCNA. Now, he’ll take you through how you can achieve your certification in half the time!

What’s the next steps?

Today, I’d like to cover a little more about what the next steps are for those who perhaps may already have their CCNA or possess previous industry experience and just want to fast track themselves to a specialist course.

Each new certification stream has a COR (Core Course) – for example, SCOR, ENCOR, CLCOR. These new COR courses act as a gateway to the various technology streams that cover Enterprise, Collaboration, Security, Service Provider, Data Centre and the newly created DevNet Professional.

What is most interesting is students can now Fast Track their education by going straight to each course as most do not require a pre-requisite certification. Obviously there is a level of assumed prior-knowledge required so be sure to check this beforehand however this now means you can pick and choose your educational pathway should you want to sit just the one course.

While Cisco has removed the pre-requisite certifications for each course, we anticipate the majority of DDLS students will start their journey by sitting CCNA and then move directly into their chosen COR course, for example ENCOR, with the final step being their individual “specialisation”.

So a typical course pathway might look like Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA), then Implementing and Operating Cisco Enterprise Network Core Technologies (ENCOR), then Implementing Cisco Enterprise Advanced Routing and Services (ENARSI).

Previously a similar journey such as this would have meant students sat up to six different courses to achieve their CCNP whereas the new streams sees this cut in half. It’s never been a better time to formalise your skills.

I’m halfway through my certification. What credits do I receive towards the new program?

If you’re part-way through your journey and aren’t sure what will count towards the new streams, Cisco has created some very handy migration tools to assist.
