About PMBOK
According to Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is the framework of best practices, processes and terms that are employed as standards within the project management industry.
It was formalised in 1996 in the Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide). Before this Guide was published, several milestones served as precursors for it. These include the first Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential and certifications awarded in 1984.
The PMBOK has continually been updated to reflect new knowledge, methods and best practices. The American National Standards Institute and the International Organization for Standardization recognise it as the source for project management standards.
The international higher education community and business schools embrace the framework and use it to train project managers.
